Karen is "in her element" as an illustrator. Much of her art style over the years has been influenced by the dolls that she played with as a child,(she'll readily admit that she still has a few hanging around) especially such as Liddle Kiddles (what big eyes they have!),and the old cartoons that she watched on T.V - Mighty Mouse was one of her favorites - again, a big eyed character.Yet she's not so sure if she'd want to be labeled as a "big-eyed artist" because that sort of sets limitations and that's not what she's about...she prefers things that are different yet appealing and that is what she tries to do with her creativity and art. It's true, however, that she has been undoubtedly affected by the likes of Keane, Maio, Gig, Lee and other artists of the sixties and seventies who couldn't resist capturing the big eyes of children, adults and animals in their works of art.
Karen's philosophy regarding the creative process is that creativity flourishes more when there is an element of play involved.
A quote from Carl Jung:"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellectbut by the play instinct acting from inner necessity.The creative mind plays with the objects it loves."

This fisherman bear cub is a portion of a wall mural that Karen painted for little Brodie in December 2004.

This often-sold-out production of "ANNIE" (May 2005) was FANTASTIC!
Kentwood High School, under the direction of Rebecca Lloyd, was a nominee in several categories including "Outstanding Overall Musical Production", "Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role" (congratulations to recipient Amanda Miller as Lily St. Regis) and "Outstanding Scenic Design" for Seattle's 2005 5th Avenue High School Musical Theatre Awards, sponsored by Wells Fargo.
